493 Units Coming to the LES

The Chinese American Planning Council has partnered with the Gotham Organization to produce 493 rental units on the Lower East side, with 208 affordable units and 115 set aside for senior affordable housing.

The mixed-use intergenerational projects spread across two buildings, which will be located at 55 Suffolk Street and 64 Norfolk Street, and were approved in February 2020. 55 Suffolk Street will include 330,000-square-foot of community space which, upon completion, will host the Chinese-American Planning Council headquarters.

One-quarter of the 30-story 55 Suffolk development will be “permanently affordable” and 64 Norfolk Street is 100% affordable.

The Beth Hamedrash Hagodol Synagogue congregation and cultural center will anchor 64 Norfolk Street in a 4,000-square-foot space.

Beth Hamedrash Hagodol will find a new home on Norfolk Street after their previous landmarked building burned down in 2017. It is the oldest Russian Orthodox house of worship in the country.
